Many offshore sites require a wide-variety of containers, all which serve different functions for offshore applications. When choosing to use half height containers, versus other types of containers, there are several considerations to take into account -- the type of goods for half height containers, and where they will be used.
Types of Goods
The majority of offshore applications for half height containers include over-height goods, pipes, tools, and equipment. Half height containers are open-topped and can be covered with tarps for inclement weather conditions. Tools and pipes are the most commonly stored goods in these containers, typically due to ease of access in offshore applications. If you are looking to store a great deal of equipment that you will need to access often, and the equipment is over-height or otherwise off-dimension, then a half height container would be the ideal solution.
Usage of Goods
Half height containers can be loaded and unloaded from the top side, via crane when necessary. Therefore, when choosing half height containers, you will want to decide if your goods are best loaded and unloaded from the sides, or from the top. Though these containers can be fitted with side doors, it is typically best to have them top-loaded, for easier access to equipment and goods. If the goods will need to be transported from one site to another, or otherwise shipped, the half height containers are still appropriate, given the use of tarpaulins and availability of tie-downs and lashing bars.
